═══════════════════════════════════════════════════How to use this template
Survey Before Anything Moves
Walk it before the dumpster lands and the material is staged. Once the crew is working, you can no longer show what was already there.
Shoot Wide, Then Close
Wide to show where you are standing, close to show the damage. Time, location, and weather stamp on each photo as you shoot.
Send It the Day You Walk It
The owner or the GC gets the survey while it is current, and it stays on the property record for the length of the job and after.
Frequently Asked Questions
Because a claim lands on the last crew that was on the property. A cracked parking lot, a dented condenser, a ceiling stain in the suite under your tear-off: a dated photo from before you started ends the conversation.
Whoever walks the property first, and it does not have to be the PM. Every employee carries the camera, so the estimator, the super, and the crew lead all shoot into the same survey.
Keep it at least as long as you keep the closeout package for that roof. Retention terms vary by owner and by contract, so follow yours. Roofing closeout and warranty documentation walks through the decision.
Yes. One survey per building, filed under that property and searchable by address later. Commercial crews run it as step one on every re-roof: see commercial roofing.
